Name the CCP Building

The Cultural Center of the Philippines is holding a search for a new name for its main building, ending on July 31. The submitted name must be that of a person, living or dead, or an institution that would embody the nature of the CCP. It could also be an acronym, pet name, or abstract concept related to arts and culture.

It should be in harmony with the CCP's programs and the CCP Development plan, which has been initiated by the Cultural Center's president, Nestor O. Jardin. The Plan seeks to transform the CCP Complex into the country's major cultural, ecological and tourism landmark, and to broaden and strengthen public participation in the arts. For more information, call 832-1125, loc l113.

pet name huh? much like the U.P. Film Center. It was renamed University Cinema, but there are plans to rename it as The Cinema Adarna. Just pray you won't fall asleep while watching inside the cinema, or you'll turn to stone.

CCP? Since GMA is president, might as well call it Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Cultural Center or any distant relative of the incumbent President. Ganun naman lagi e, parang yung MIA naging NAIA kay Cory, meron ka nang Don Mariano Marcos University, may Macapagal Avenue na rin. Puwede rin Jose Pidal.

i think it should be it in tagalog, just to promote some sense of nationality in it.

Local words like "kultura" and "sining" can be inputted, though not necessarily tagalog. "Balai" can also be used, although it's starting to be a little overused na.

Mayb we could also use the title of a famous Filipino artpiece in the name, like for example "Sariwanok" or "Spolarium", although spolarium connotes bad meanings because of the violent nature of the painting.

i'm not in favor of naming it after a person because somehow that will "isolate" certain crafts. Like for example, you name it after a painter, say Juan Luna, then the non-painters would feel awkward. Etcetera, etcetera. Philippines doesn't have a multi-talented art person. The closest i think is Jose Rizal, and he is already our National Hero. Besides if you name it after Rizal, the center would have more of a "patriotic" atmosphere, rather than cultural.
