layman and designers' lingo
hi! i'm doing an article on the terms that laymen (e.g. karpentero, tubero, etc.) commonly use. do you know some? i'd appreciate if you can share some of your experiences on the field, especially your first exposure to construction and talking to construction people (funny anecdotes?). on the other hand, what terms do designers use that confuse clients (and construction people as well?). like, do clients really know what a water closet is? post comments here, or email me at amillah.rodil@summitmedia.com.ph.thanks!

didn't we memorize a whole bunch of vernacular terms for the board exam?
eto contribution ko: de roskas (tama ba spelling?). ex. light bulb.
sapatos- eto yata yung nilalagay between the re-bars para may space pag buhos ng semento. kaya daw sapatos kase before literally yung sapatos (or bota) nung construction worker yung iniipit nila habang binubuhusan para pumasok yung semento in between ng re-bars.
engineer-eto yung tawag sa mga architects sa construction site. hehehe (e.g. sabi nung isang laborer saken, "ay architect pala kayo, engineer?")
kapak - defect sa plastering (hindi kumapit ng maayos ang plastering sa concrete wall, kaya pag pinukpok mo tutunog ng "kapak, kapak", hehe. even our Singaporean CM already uses this term. i.e. "You need to rectify this wall, lah. "It's full of kapak."
parilya - term for the rebars na naka-layout na. mukha kasi syang parilya for grilling.
tambol - cladding or false wall i.e. "pare, lumabas ang tubo sa pader. tambulan mo na lang."
thanks for the contributions...parang interesting gumawa ng comprehensive list one of these days. yung pina-pamemorize kasi for the board is a bit outdated (as in spanish period pa ata yung terms na iba). interesting din malaman kung paano nagdevelop yung iba (like sapatos).
kb, yung parilya ba, is it the grill itself? yung metal?
yes pon, parilya (or parilla) is the metal grill for outdoor barbecues/steaks
