architecture in malaysia

some photos from a recent trip to malaysia...

this bridge is one of eight bridges that cross the man-made lake in putrajaya, the seat of the malaysian federal government (photo by ferdz osio).


this is the semi-outdoor escalator going down to the promenade facing the man-made lake


most of the big government buildings in putrajaya look traditional with their big domes and formal design. but details of smaller structures, such as this canopy, provide a modern contrast.


this is the side of the huge main mosque


of course, one can't be in malaysia without taking a picture of the famous petronas twin towers :)


whether traditional or modern, the star is a prevalent feature in malaysian architecture, as seen in the kuala lumpur sentral train station (note: the petronas plan is also a star)

been to putrajaya, nice, amusing, awe-inspiring... i found it also a bit fake. :P it's mahathir's monument to himself :D
