GAM Green Forum

Green Architects Promote Environmental Design

The Green Architecture Movement (GAM) of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), through the support of Holcim Philippines and Boysen Paints, will hold its 5th annual Green Forum with topics focused on Environmental Architecture. The forum will be on June 14, 2008, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Mandarin Oriental Suites located at the 4th floor level of Gateway Mall in Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City.

In line with GAM’s objective of promoting green building practices, this year’s forum aims to raise awareness on energy-conserving guidelines as well as sustainable design principles. No less than Department of Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes will give the keynote address.

The series of lectures are divided into four parts. For the first part, popular model and architecture enthusiast Bianca Araneta-Elizalde will start by giving her perception as a layperson on Green Architecture. The second part of the lecture series will focus on implementing strategies that mitigate damage to the environment. Speakers will be Atty. Zoilo Andin, Executive Director for the National Solid Waste Management Commission and Engr. Porthos Alma Jose, an expert on water management trends. The third part of the program will be a joint discussion on the DOE commissioned booklet “Guidelines on Energy Conserving Designs of Buildings” which aims to create a consensus among the various professions to do their part towards energy efficiency. For the part of architects, GAM member and esteemed architect, Froilan Hong will discuss issues on a Building's Envelope and Skin. For electrical engineers, Alex Cabugao of Meralco will talk on Building Electrical Systems. Engr. Rocendo Perez Jr., will lecture on Air-Conditioning Systems. Mr. Josaias dela Cruz of the BPI Corporate Banking Division will explain to participants how sustainable design can be funded thru BPI’s Green Building Financing Program. In addition to the lectures, there will also be a mini-exhibit of products relevant to the theme.

The Green Architecture Movement (GAM) is a specialty council of the United Architects of the Philippines. It is an advocacy group promoting green building practices in all design, construction, and renovation projects.
