Workshop on Disaster Risk Management in Social Housing

On October 17-21, 2006, TAO-Pilipinas will hold the Young Professionals General Orientation Workshop on Social Housing with the theme,

"Young Professionals working towards Sustainable Communities:
Integrating Community-based Disaster Risk Management in Social Housing."

This annual workshop gathers new graduates and senior university students of architecture, engineering, and planning to participate in training sessions and field work activities. These activities are aimed at fostering social responsibility and encourage the involvement of young professionals in working with poor communities in need of technical professional services.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

TAO-Pilipinas is now accepting applications for the 2006 YP Workshop. Forty (40) slots are open for new graduates and university students. Applicants for the 5-day workshop must complete the required application procedure.

Workshop fee is Php3,000.00. A limited number of applicants will be selected as sponsored YP participants based on review of completed application forms and interview. Sponsorship shall cover workshop registration fees, including food and lodging.

architecture in malaysia

some photos from a recent trip to malaysia...

this bridge is one of eight bridges that cross the man-made lake in putrajaya, the seat of the malaysian federal government (photo by ferdz osio).


this is the semi-outdoor escalator going down to the promenade facing the man-made lake


most of the big government buildings in putrajaya look traditional with their big domes and formal design. but details of smaller structures, such as this canopy, provide a modern contrast.


this is the side of the huge main mosque


of course, one can't be in malaysia without taking a picture of the famous petronas twin towers :)


whether traditional or modern, the star is a prevalent feature in malaysian architecture, as seen in the kuala lumpur sentral train station (note: the petronas plan is also a star)
